​THIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  As the Southwest Monsoon regains intense momentum across the Indian peninsula, the season's first Low-Pressure Area has officially formed over the Bay of Bengal, positioned closely off the Odisha and West Bengal coasts.

According to  Metbeat Weather, this newly developed cyclonic system is poised to significantly escalate precipitation levels across India’s eastern states and down south along the western coast. Kerala is preparing for a severe spell of torrential downpours over the coming days as a direct consequence. 

The synergy between this active Bay system and the pre-existing heavy rainfall conditions in Kerala has severely heightened the risk of extreme weather events. The impact will be felt most acutely across the northern districts of the state, where localized atmospheric instability remains high.

In anticipation of exceptionally heavy downpours, IMD have issued an Orange Alert for the northern districts of Kasaragod and Kannur for tomorrow. Weather models project isolated regions to experience intense deluges ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within a swift 24-hour window.

Local administrations in these northern pockets have urged residents living in landslide-prone hilly terrains, riverbanks, and low-lying waterlogged areas to maintain maximum vigilance and prepare for emergency relocations if water levels breach safety marks.

Coastal Trough Amplifies Rain over Northern Kerala

Even prior to the full impact of the Bay of Bengal system, northern Kerala has been enduring persistent downpours driven by a robust offshore Coastal Trough hovering along the Kerala coast. Kasaragod district currently leads the state in seasonal rainfall accumulation, closely followed by heavy totals in Kannur.

The severity of the current active monsoon phase across the region was underscored by a tragic incident in neighboring Mangaluru, Karnataka. A compound wall collapsed onto rented houses amid relentless heavy rain, claiming three lives and leaving three others critically injured.

Meteorological indicators suggest that the low-pressure system is highly likely to intensify further over the next 24 hours. While it directly drives widespread rainfall across East and Central India, its indirect interaction with the prevailing moisture-laden monsoon winds over the Arabian Sea will act as a force multiplier for Kerala's weather matrix, sustaining high-intensity spells across the state.

Squalls and Severe Wind Warnings

In addition to heavy downpours, the Metbeat Weather desk warns of sudden, strong squally winds gusting between 40 to 50 km/h, occasionally exceeding these limits during severe convective cloud formations. Fishermen have been strongly urged to monitor official weather advisories closely before venturing into the sea, as maritime conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly due to rough seas and unpredictable wind patterns.

ശക്തമായ മഴയെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് ജലനിരപ്പ് ഉയര്‍ന്നതിനാല്‍ ഇടുക്കി, പാംബ്ല അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ ഇന്ന് രാത്രി തുറക്കും. രാത്രി 10 മണി മുതല്‍ ഘട്ടം ഘട്ടമായാണ് ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ ഉയര്‍ത്തുക. 253 അടിയാണ് അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ പരമാവധി ജലനിരപ്പ്. ഇടുക്കി കഞ്ഞിക്കുഴി ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിലെ ലോവര്‍ പെരിയാര്‍ ജലവൈദ്യുതി പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി പെരിയാറില്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ചതാണ് പാംബ്ല അണക്കെട്ട്.

കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം കരകയറിയ ന്യൂനമർദ്ദം ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡിന് മുകളിലും അതി തീവ്ര ന്യൂനമർദ്ദമായി ( Deep Depression) തുടരുന്നു . സാധാരണ കരകയറി ഏതാനും മണിക്കൂറുകൾക്കകം ന്യൂനമർദ്ദത്തിന്റെ ശക്തി കുറയാറുണ്ട്. കരകയറുമ്പോൾ തീവ്ര ന്യൂനമർദ്ദം ആയിരുന്നു ഈ സിസ്റ്റം. എന്നാൽ 24 മണിക്കൂർ കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം ശക്തി കുറയാതെ കരഭാഗത്തിനും മുകളിൽ നിലകൊള്ളുകയാണ്. 

ഇതു കാരണം മധ്യ ഇന്ത്യയിലും ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലും മഴ തുടരുന്നു. കേരളത്തിൽ ഇന്നും നാളെയും മഴ ശക്തിപ്പെടുമെന്ന് കാലാവസ്ഥ പ്രവചനം ഉണ്ട്. ജില്ലകളിൽ കേന്ദ്രകലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പ് ഓറഞ്ച്, മഞ്ഞ അലർട്ടുകൾ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. വയനാട് ജില്ലയിൽ ശക്തമായ മഴ സാധ്യതയെ തുടർന്നും ഓറഞ്ച് അലർട്ട് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചതിനെ തുടർന്നും ഇന്ന് ( വ്യാഴം)  വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്ക് ജില്ലാ കലക്ടർ അവധി നൽകിയിരുന്നു. വയനാട്ടിൽ നാളെയും അവധിയാണ് .

വയനാട് ജില്ലയില്‍ നാളെ (വെള്ളി) വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് അവധി

കാലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പ് ഓറഞ്ച് അലര്‍ട്ട് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് വയനാട് ജില്ലയില്‍ നാളെ (വെള്ളി) വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ജില്ലാ കലക്ടര്‍ അവധി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. ജില്ലയിലെ അങ്കണവാടികള്‍, മത പഠന ക്ലാസുകള്‍, ട്യൂഷന്‍ സെന്ററുകള്‍, സ്‌പെഷല്‍ ക്ലാസുകള്‍, പ്രൊഫഷനല്‍ കോളജുകള്‍ എന്നിവയ്ക്കും അവധി ബാധകമാണ്. റെസിഡന്‍ഷ്യല്‍ സ്‌കൂളിനും കോളജിനും കോളജുകള്‍ക്കും അവധി ബാധകമല്ലെന്ന് ജില്ലാ കലക്ടര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു.

എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്ക് നാളെ (ജൂലൈ 31) അവധി

പ്രൊഫഷണൽ കോളേജുകൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്കാണ് അവധി. എന്നാൽ റസിഡൻഷ്യൽ സ്കൂളുകൾക്കും കോളേജുകൾക്കും ഇന്ന് പ്രവൃത്തി ദിനം ആയിരിക്കും.  കണ്ണൂര് , കോഴിക്കോട്, വയനാട് ജില്ലകളിലാണ് ഇന്ന് കാലാവസ്ഥ വകുപ്പ് ഓറഞ്ച് അലർട്ട് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്.

രാവിലത്തെ ഉപഗ്രഹ  നിരീക്ഷണത്തിൽ തെക്കൻ ജില്ലകളിലാണ് മഴ ലഭിക്കുന്നത്. വടക്കൻ ജില്ലകളിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങളെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് മഴ രാവിലെ കുറവാണ്. എന്നാൽ ഉച്ചയോടെ എല്ലാ ജില്ലകളിലേക്കും മഴയെത്തും. ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡിലെ ബിലാസ്പൂരിന് 30 കി.മി ഉം ചാമ്പയിൽ 40 കി.മി ഉം അകലെയാണ് തീവ്ര ന്യൂനമർദ്ദം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ന്യൂനമർദ്ദം പടിഞ്ഞാറേക്കാണ് നീങ്ങുന്നത്. അതോടെ പടിഞ്ഞാറുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും വരും ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഓറഞ്ച് അലർട്ട് ഉണ്ടാകും. 

ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിൽ കേരളത്തിൽ മാത്രമാണ് ഇന്ന് ഓറഞ്ച് അലർട്ട് ഉള്ളത്. നാളെയും കേരളത്തിൽ ഓറഞ്ച് അലർട്ട് ഉണ്ട്. കേരളത്തിനൊപ്പം നാളെ ദക്ഷിണ ഉൾനാടൻ കർണാടകയിലും ഓറഞ്ച് അലർട്ട് ആണ്. 

അറബിക്കടലിൽ 40 മുതൽ 55 കിലോമീറ്റർ വരെ വേഗതയിലുള്ള കാറ്റിന് സാധ്യത. ചില സമയങ്ങളിൽ കാറ്റിന്റെ വേഗത 65 കിലോമീറ്റർ വരെ എത്തും. ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ മഴയുടെ ശക്തി തിങ്കളാഴ്ചക്ക് ശേഷം കുറയാനാണ് സാധ്യത.
